Moroccan Sfinj

Ingredients

6 cups flour 

2 teaspoons active dry yeast 

1 teaspoon salt 

2 teaspoons sugar 

3 cups water or a bit more 

Oil for frying 

Powdered sugar for sprinkling

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Mix the flour with the yeast, the sugar and salt.

Step 2

Slowly pour in the water and start to form a dough, kneading with your hands. Continue adding water until you have a smooth sticky dough. 

Step 3

Drizzle a little oil on the dough and form a ball.

Step 4

Cover with Saran Wrap and let rise until doubled in size, about one hour.

Step 5

Heat oil in a deep-sided pot.

Step 6

Place oil on your hands and take a small piece of dough and poke a hole in the middle with your finger.

Step 7

Drop the poked dough ball into the hot oil and fry until golden on each side.

Step 8

Remove from the oil and place on a paper-towel-lined pan to drain.

Step 9

Sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy!
