No Time for a Skincare Routine? Think Again!
During these unpredictable times, there’s one thing that has remained the same; the need to take care of our skin. As the world begins to normalize, our lives are getting more and more busy, leaving us with very limited time in the morning to dedicate to skincare. Adding to the fact that skincare needs are different for each individual, leaving many of us to wonder if it’s even doable. As skincare becomes trendier, hundreds of new products are being released, which also means it has gotten way more intimidating and confusing. Makeup artist Nikki Sadek London shares an easy-to-follow and effective skincare regimen for the working woman.
Step One:
Morning skincare routines actually start the night before. You must make sure you are going to sleep with a clean and moisturized face. It is recommended to use the same cleanser and moisturizer you use in the morning.
Step Two:
The first step in the morning is to wash your face. You can use cold water to refresh yourself but it is not proven that the cold water does anything to your pores, it is just a good wake-up.
Step Three:
Next is face cleanser. Try to avoid any face wash that exfoliates (i.e. with beads or anything that says ‘scrub’ or ‘exfoliating’). Any scrub or face wash that contains beads or irregular shaped particles damages the skin by causing micro-tears on the surface. Try using Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser which is a great soothing cleanser for sensitive skin. It alleviates redness from the skin and is sulfate-free. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is also a great, inexpensive option that you can find in many stores. If you have dry or sensitive skin it is recommended to only wash your face at night and rinse with water in the morning.
Step Four:
The next step is moisturizing. Moisturizer helps keep your skin soft and hydrated. If you have oily or acne-prone skin try a lighter moisturizer. Embryolisse-Lait-Crème Concentré, Multi-function nourishing moisturizer is not too heavy on the skin and is perfect to use under makeup. Keep in mind it is also important to rub any products into your skin in an upward motion.
Step Five:
The last step is sunscreen. Sunscreen is the most important step in your skincare routine. There is no need to get a higher SPF than 50. The key to sunscreen is to reapply constantly throughout the day. An incredible sunscreen is Supergoop! They offer matte or dew finish so you can pick which is best for you. They both look great under foundation. You can also try sunscreen powder, a great choice is (Re)setting 100% Mineral Powder. If your foundation comes with SPF, this additional layer is not necessary.
Our skin is the largest organ in our body, and probably one of the most neglected, but given that it’s what stands between us and the outside world, it should be a priority. As you have seen, it doesn’t have to be a 45-minute, 15-step process. Just a few minutes a day can make a huge difference.
